Brief history

Chinook was developed in the USDA breeding program from a 1974 cross involving Petham Golding and Brewer's Gold-derived material. It was released commercially in the mid-1980s.

General description

A strong profile combining grapefruit and other citrus notes with pine, resin and a noticeable spicy character.

Brewing use

Suitable for both bittering and aroma. It is particularly effective in pale ales, IPAs and stronger beers where a bold pine-citrus character is desired.
